tuesday night my family and I were driving home from our weekend at the river. that same tuesday night five teenagers from my town were driving home from the beach, they were turning out of a gas station parking lot when a cement truck's breaks failed, the truck then ran a stop sign, hit the car carrying the teens, pushed them over a small embankment then landed on top of the vehicle. sadly, two of the five teens were killed on impact. the other three survived yet are still in the hospital recovering with some pretty bad injuries. I did not know all of the kids, although living in a small town you have a lot of knowing of someone without really "knowing" them personally. everyone is all sort of connected, one of the teens who passed away was a cousin/nephew of a family who goes to my church, and even though I only met him a couple times it's still a hard thing to grasp. living in a small town, when one family hurts the rest of us hurt, and in this case multiple families are hurting. everyone keeps talking about holding your loved ones closer which is a good thing, but I wish it didn't take lives being taken for people to appreciate life and not worry about the small things. you should cherish life everyday, love and be kind to those around you because sadly, as we learned a few days ago something can happen to any one of us in a blink of an eye. so yes, do hold the ones you love closer, and be sure they know you love them.. not just for right now, but for always.
